Urtopia Reveals Exact Carbon Footprint of its E-Bikes

In a significant move toward transparency in the e-bike industry, Urtopia has stepped forward as the first electric bike company to openly disclose the exact carbon footprint of its products.

Urtopia’s Carbon One e-bike has been verified to have a carbon footprint of 276.58 kg CO2-equivalent. This is notably lower than many other transportation methods, as it’s about 5% of the carbon footprint of an electric car and even boasts better environmental credentials than shared bicycles.

It produces a GHG (greenhouse gas) emission that’s six times less than a petrol car, four times less than both electric cars and motorcycles, and even surpasses shared bicycles in terms of carbon efficiency.

The move underscores a growing demand for clear environmental accountability in manufacturing and use of consumer products.

Why This Matters

As the world grapples with the pressing challenge of climate change, consumers increasingly seek products that are not only sustainable but also transparent in their environmental impact.

While e-bikes have long been touted as an eco-friendly transportation alternative, the specifics of their environmental footprint have often been unclear. Urtopia’s recent revelation thus sets a precedent, potentially inspiring other companies to follow suit.

E-Bike Carbon Footprint

In collaboration with Bureau Veritas, a globally recognized certification agency, Urtopia has ascertained the carbon footprint for its flagship models, the Carbon 1 and Carbon 1s, to be 276.58 kg and 279.76 kg CO2-equivalent respectively. These figures amount to roughly 5% of the carbon emissions of an average electric car, and even less than some shared bike programs.

Moreover, during its operational phase, an Urtopia e-bike produces about 4 grams of CO2 for every kilometer it’s ridden. This statistic places it almost on par with traditional, non-electric bicycles in terms of carbon emissions. As a benchmark, after riding an Urtopia e-bike for 154 km, the carbon savings equate to the benefits of planting a tree.
