Folding electric bikes are an awesome bit of kit for city riders and commuters, but theyโ€™re not always blessed with the longest range.

On average, you can expect to get around 30 miles of range from each charge on a folding e-bike, which may well not be enough for a long commute or adventurous weekend ride, and will see you need to charge your bike much more often than you might want to.

However, there are bikes out there with a much longer range – even up to 125 miles, if you know where to look.

On this page, weโ€™ll take you through a list of the top five long-range folding electric bikes, showing you just how far a folding e-bike can go.

Folding E-Bike Range vs Regular E-Bike Range

The average folding e-bike has a range of around 30 miles, or 50 kilometers, which is enough for many city riders.

With regular e-bikes, you can expect 22-50 miles on a single charge, but in some cases you can go even further, with some bikes boasting a range of over 80 miles.

Folding e-bikes are generally designed for city riders and urban commuters, with the smaller wheel size unable to deal with a wide range of terrains and the folding capabilities most useful when lifting into cars, onto public transport, or stowing in a small urban home – but that doesnโ€™t mean that inner city riders donโ€™t want the freedom of a longer range, too.

Are Folding Electric Bikes Worth It?

Folding electric bikes are absolutely worth it for city riders who want to use a variety of transport options on their route, arrive at their destination less tired and less sweaty, and who may not have the space to store a regular bike.

While e-bikes tend to have a reputation for being large and heavy, folding e-bikes can be much lighter and more compact.

Plus, when you consider that you donโ€™t necessarily have to sacrifice the longer range of a regular e-bike when tapping into the convenience of a folding e-bike, itโ€™s fair to say that they are definitely worth a look if youโ€™re intrigued.
