Cycling to the Office PART 2: Shirts

In the second part of our series on cycling clothes that also work in the office, we take a look at the best cycling shirts you can cycle in. You can read PART 1 – Trousers – here and PART 3 – Footwear – here.

So what do we look for in a good shirt you can cycle in? Well let’s start the bidding with, a nice light, breathable material that ideal provides a bit of give and also a lower cut back.

Vote for what you like to wear on your bicycle commute here.

If you do, however, prefer to get changed at your destination, then a shirt carrier may be your best bet to prevent a creased shirt.

Fairwear – Samson Stripe COOLMAX Shirt – $85

I reviewed this shirt not too long ago (read that review here) and I’m still a huge fan. So much so that I’m actually wearing this shirt as I write.

American-based Fairwear are new on the scene having launched earlier in the year with a great shirt range and are now branching out now with a new fleece collection.

The shirt itself is made from COOLMAX fabric – the stuff you’ll find in proper sports gear – but you would have no idea that this is a shirt with performance in mind just by looking at it. It’s also wonderfully light to keep you cool and dry throughout your ride.

Great value too at $85 (approx £53), although you might want to buy a few shirts together with international shipping costs to consider.

Ahh Merino, a cyclist’s old friend.

Lightweight, windproof and moisture-wicking, merino never disappoints.

Slim-fit in style, this is a terrific modern shirt from masters of combining performance and style, Rapha.

Ted Baker – Oxford Shirt – £95

I was very taken with Ted Baker’s Raising The Handlebars range upon its release, and this is one of my favourite pieces from the collection.

As you would expect with Ted Baker, the Oxford Shirt looks great. But what is particularly impressive with this shirt is the range of cycling-friendly features it boasts, a list that includes: reflective under collar trim, a side zip pocket, under arm eyelets for extra breathability, an anti-bacterial finish and added length at the back for more flexibility.
