If you want a tough waterproof backpack for cycling, the Craft Cadence IPX5 is more than a worthy contender.

This isn’t one of “will it/won’t it?” waterproof backpacks that are “water resistant” and should keep your stuff dry in all but the most extreme of weather. The IPX5 is a no-nonsense waterproof bag for cycling that WILL keep your stuff dry.

About Craft Cadence

Craft Cadence is still a company very much in its infancy, having been founded in a 2016 by a group of commuters and weekend riders in London. Cycling is their focus, and with a product range spanning just three items, it’s clear they’re focussing on quality over quantity – with the IPX5 their star attraction to date.

So, let’s jump into this sizeable bag…

As soon as you get your hands on the IPX5, there’s no doubt that this is a rugged backpack. It feels tough. A backpack that’s been had a few scrapes in its time and fears nothing and no-one.

The IPX5 is best described as a rolltop “big medium” bag with a 30-litre capacity, containing two areas for storing your stuff.

The main compartment has a removable inner section (secured simply by Velcro at the top) which provides sections for a 15” laptop opposite a large mesh zipped pocket which would comfortably fit a tablet or notebook up to 12” wide. Between the two pockets is ample space for all your other chunky possessions and even a decent bit of shopping.

On the front exterior of this cycling backpack is another large deep pocket (approx. 10” wide) secured with a waterproof zip – ideal for stuff you need to access more quickly like phone, keys, wallet and so on.

The Best Waterproof Backpack for Cycling to Work?

As well as being a very sturdy and durable backpack, the IPX5 could well be the perfect backpack for cycling to work – especially if you live in rainy climes (i.e. the UK).

A waterproof backpack is a great way to safely carry your laptop to work, while the straps on this backpack help to prevent getting a sweaty back when cycling thanks to it’s airflow system which creates a cushion of air between you and the backpack.

Speaking of the straps, this is somewhere else Craft Cadence have excelled. There’s plenty of ventilation points on the adjustable straps, as well as reflective strips. Then there’s a chest strap and a waist strap to help keep the bag secure and distribute the weight. Top.

On the front of this cycling rucksack is another loop towards the base of the back, which is surrounded by reflective strips and is the perfect place to attach a small light when riding.

Did you know… there is no difference between rucksacks and backpacks , with the word “ruck” coming from the German word “rucken” meaning “back”?

Overall, there’s no doubt that the Craft Cadence IPX5 is a rugged backpack that is waterproof, comfortable and highly functional for cycling. Its minimalist design is also easy on the eye, and at £79.99 is very good value for a backpack that feels like it’ll last forever.
