Helly Hansen Kos Polo – Review

After reviewing the excellent Helly Hansen Universal Moto Jacket not long ago, I decided I tried out some more of Helly Hansen’s gear. In particular, their summer wear – the Kos Polo coupled with the HD Classic Shorts.

Kos Polo

The Kos Polo isn’t specifically built for cycling – like much of Helly Hansen’s gear – but with the company’s roots coming from sailing and outdoor pursuits, many of the technical functionality of their apparel is also well-suited to cycling.

Helly Hansen Kos Polo Review

An extremely lightweight polo, with a fluid feel thanks to the quick-dry Tactel fabric, the Helly Hansen Kos Polo is certainly built for an active lifestyle. The quick-dry fabric also lends itself well to summer cycling, either if you get caught in a summer shower or just get a bit sweaty after your ride. The material also minimises sweat patches.

In terms of style, the polo is very ‘normal’. No thrills, a traditional cut and regular fit. The only slight beef I have with the polo is the collar, which struggles to hold a good shape and often turns up. Other than that though, the polo is a solid addition to the wardrobe.

The Kos Polo design is simple but looks good, with two bold lines in contrast colours decorating the edge of the colour and sleeves. Featuring a three-down button design, the Helly Hansen ‘HH’ logo also sits over the left breast.

This polo normally retails at a reasonable £40. However, Helly Hansen are currently offering it for half price at £20, which – in my eyes – is an absolute bargain for a polo shirt with this much functionality.

There are also a vast range of colours available, including different versions and shades of blue, purple, a couple of shades of grey, white, and red. I opted for the summery Azure Blue model, as you can see in the pictures.

Overall, this is a solid polo shirt for cycling – with its breathable material particularly suited to summer riding. At £20 (at the time of writing), this top offers excellent value.
